Six Stages, and Only One of Them Involves New Clubs
Most of a session here is spent establishing facts. By the time anything new gets handed to you, we already know what your existing equipment measures, where it sits relative to spec, and which variable is worth changing first.
Stage by Stage

Intake conversation — about ten minutes
What you play, how often, where the misses live, and what would count as a good outcome. We write this down because it is the standard the session gets judged against at the end. If your goal is not achievable through equipment, this is where we say so.

The audit — twenty-five to forty minutes
Every club you brought goes on the gauges. Loft, lie, playing length, swingweight, total weight, butt frequency, grip size and build-up, groove condition on scoring clubs. Readings go straight onto the sheet as they are taken, including the ones that are perfectly fine.

Baseline swings — fifteen minutes
You hit your own clubs into the net with face tape on. This gives us strike location, dispersion and a starting set of launch numbers that belong to equipment we now understand. Nothing is changed yet.

Variable isolation — twenty to thirty minutes
We change one thing at a time from the baseline, in the priority order the audit produced. Length and lie before shaft. Shaft weight before shaft profile. Head last. Each change gets its own set of swings and its own line on the sheet.

Verification pass — ten minutes
The winning combination gets hit again, cold, after a short break. A specification that only works while you are warm and thinking about it is not a specification. If the numbers do not hold up, we go back a stage rather than pretending they did.

Written specification — five minutes
Everything gets printed: your baseline readings, every change tested, the numbers each produced, and the final build spec with tolerances. If you order, this becomes the build ticket. If you do not, it is still yours.
Why the Order Matters More Than the Instruments
Any competent shop owns similar equipment. What separates outcomes is the sequence in which the variables get tested, because golf club specifications interact. Change the length and the swingweight moves. Change the swingweight and the perceived flex moves. Change the shaft and the ideal loft moves.
Test all of them at once and you get a result you cannot reproduce or explain. Test them in a fixed order, holding everything else still, and each answer stays valid when you move to the next question. It is slower. It is also the only version that survives a verification pass.
The practical consequence: we will sometimes tell you that the session has answered your question after forty minutes and there is no point testing further. You are not charged less, but you are also not kept on the mat to justify a fee.
What We Hold Ourselves To
These are the tolerances every build leaving this bench is checked against. They are printed on your sheet so you can hold us to them.

After the Session
If you order, we quote components in writing that day and give you a completion date rather than a range. The build gets assembled, weighted, and then re-gauged by someone who did not build it. If anything lands outside the tolerances above, it goes back on the bench before you ever see it.
If you do not order, nothing else happens. There is no follow-up sequence, no discount email, and no call three weeks later asking whether you have thought about it. Your sheet stays on file so a future visit starts from a known point, and that is the extent of it.
- Sheets are kept indefinitely and can be re-sent by email on request.
- Re-checks after a season are charged at the spec review rate.
- Anything that reads outside tolerance on a club we built gets corrected at no charge.
Book the Method, Not a Product
You are paying for the measurement and the reasoning. The clubs, if any, come after.
