The Things People Ask Before Booking

These are the twelve questions that come up most often on the phone. If yours is not here, call the shop — there is no version of this list that covers everyone.

Do I have to buy clubs at the end of a session?

No. Roughly a third of sessions end in adjustments to the set you already own. The fee covers the bench time and the gauge sheet, and it is the same fee either way.

How long does a bench session take?

Single-category benches run about seventy-five minutes. A full bag audit is closer to two hours and is usually split across two visits so nobody is swinging tired at the end.

What exactly is on the gauge sheet?

Measured loft and lie for every head, playing length, swingweight, total weight, butt frequency, grip size and build-up, and groove condition on scoring clubs. Launch numbers get attached if the session included live ball flight.

Can you fit me if I only have a limited practice history?

Yes, with a caveat we say out loud: a swing that is still changing week to week produces a moving target. For newer golfers we generally fit length, lie and grip size properly and hold off on shaft selection until the motion settles.

Do you work on clubs bought somewhere else?

Always. Bending, regripping, re-shafting and length changes are bench work regardless of where the club came from. We do not mark up service on other people's equipment.

Is there a launch monitor involved?

Yes, but it is the second half of the session, not the first. The unit confirms whether the specification we arrived at on the gauges actually behaves in the air. Starting with it tends to hide mechanical problems.

What is the turnaround on a build?

Components in stock: three to five working days. Ordered components depend on the supplier, typically one to three weeks. We give you a date at the end of the session, not a range.

Do you fit left-handed golfers?

Yes. The test rack carries left-hand heads in every category, though the shaft options are the same either way. Say so when you book so the right heads are out on the mat.

Can two people share a session?

Not on the same booking. Two golfers in one slot means both get half the bench time, and the audit portion cannot be rushed. Back-to-back slots on the same afternoon are usually available.

What happens to the gauge sheet after I leave?

You get the printed copy and we keep a duplicate on file under your name. When you come back, the new readings sit next to the old ones so drift over seasons is visible rather than guessed at.

Do you fit junior golfers?

Yes, and the emphasis is different. Growing golfers need length and weight revisited every season, so we fit for the next twelve months rather than for a permanent specification, and we say when a cut-down adult set is genuinely the wrong answer.

My irons are ten years old. Is a session wasted on them?

Rarely. Older sets are exactly where the audit earns its keep, because a decade of use produces measurable drift in loft, lie and groove depth. Sometimes the honest answer is replacement, but we would rather that come out of a reading than an assumption.

Two Things We Get Asked That Deserve More Room

“Will a fitting add distance?”

Sometimes, and the honest version of the answer is that it depends entirely on what is currently wrong. A golfer playing a shaft forty CPM too stiff, or irons an inch too short, has real yardage sitting on the table. A golfer whose specification is already close will gain very little distance and a noticeable amount of consistency instead. We will tell you which category you are in during the audit, before you decide whether to spend anything.

“How is this different from a fitting at a big-box store?”

The difference is what happens in the first forty minutes. A retail fitting typically begins with you hitting a demo club and the software recommending from that. We begin with your existing clubs on the gauges, because the demo result is meaningless until we know whether your current set is in spec. It is a slower process and it produces a document rather than a cart.

One more thing. We are happy to look at a fitting sheet from another shop and explain what the numbers mean. No charge, no obligation, and no commentary on whoever produced it.

Answer Not Here?

Call the bench during posted hours. If a session is not the right answer for your situation, that is a perfectly acceptable outcome of the phone call.
